DC48V Power System Architecture for Aquaculture

Technical guide | Keywords: DC48V aquaculture power system architecture

Most pond sites wire each aerator straight to AC. A DC 48V architecture takes a different path: convert once, buffer with storage, and feed every device from one safe, managed bus.

Three stages: AC → storage → DC

A DC48V aquaculture power system has three stages. Mains AC is rectified to a 48V DC bus; a storage battery buffers that bus; and DC loads — aerators through VFDs, controllers, sensors — draw from it. One conversion, one protected distribution point.

Why 48V

48V sits in the Safety Extra-Low Voltage band, so the pond-side wiring is intrinsically safer in wet environments, and a single buffered bus cuts the cabling and protection complexity of running AC to every device.

System-level supply vs per-device supply

Instead of a power supply bolted to each aerator, the DC48V architecture is system-level: unified distribution, central protection and a shared battery. That is what makes ordered restart and storage integration practical.

Ordered restart after power loss

When mains returns, the system brings loads back in stages rather than all at once, avoiding an inrush trip. During the outage the battery keeps critical aeration running within its capacity.

FAQ

Why DC48V instead of AC per aerator?
One buffered DC bus cuts wiring cost, enables storage and PV, and restarts safely after outage.
Is 48V safe in wet environments?
Yes, 48V is below the AC shock risk band and pairs with RCD/out-current protection.
